When The X Company approached Foxbox Digital to build a custom access control platform for their national network of social clubs and private residences, the challenge was clear immediately: how do you combine disparate access systems, without compromising the user experience?
Existing access control systems focused on individual unit doors and lacked the security features required for busy lobby and amenity spaces. Foxbox found the Openpath access control solutions were better suited for the shared spaces, functioning as a 24/7, cloud-based security concierge without requiring on-site staff. In order to have them function as one system, Foxbox’s integrated solution had to sync two dashboards and two mobile SDKs into one sleek, user-friendly resident app with a host of modern features and capabilities.
Foxbox built the X Co. app to combine both Openpath and the existing access provider for a seamless, fully digital resident and multifamily access control experience that meets X Co.’s vision to streamline and improve interactions between tenants, the physical building, and ownership. Thanks to Openpath’s open architecture and mobile SDK, the end result is an intuitive app that allows residents to use all the best features of the Openpath system, like touchless Wave to Unlock, to access the shared lobby, elevators, and amenity spaces, as well as unlock their own unit doors within the same mobile platform. The X Co. app also includes user onboarding tutorials, automatic entry detection, and remote unlock features available to all residents and users.
For the integration, Foxbox uses Openpath as the main dashboard, and administrators can track and view all logged entry activity across both access control platforms in one convenient place. When they ran into roadblocks, Foxbox was able to quickly troubleshoot API and SDK configurations with the Openpath support staff and find creative workarounds without comprising the final user experience. The fully integrated, cloud-based management platform makes it easy to sync residents to groups for new leases and community events, as well as assist residents with security issues in real-time.
